As a queer person working in a creative industry, I have wanted to set up a resource like this for a long time – and now seems like as good a time as any. With the creative industries taking a huge hit due to the pandemic and life being put on pause for most of us right now, it’s not exactly the easiest time to get those creative juices flowing.
I hope that Queer Creatives will bring some comfort by profiling LGBTQ+ creatives of all kinds from across the UK to showcase their work, find out where they get their inspiration and hear their top tips. And I hope to build a community where you can find – and give – inspiration no matter what stage you’re at; whether you’ve been in your industry for years or are just starting out, whether you pursue your creative talents as a hobby or a career, everyone has a unique story to tell.
It doesn’t matter if you think you’re the Next Big Thing, or if you think your work should be sent out to sea and set alight with a flaming arrow Viking-style (we’ve all had those days!); squeezing any amount of creativity out into the world is bloody hard right now, and I want to celebrate the fact that we’re all still here and we’re all carrying on as best we can.
So this is a call to all you LGBTQ+ creatives out there – whether you’re an author or an artist, a dancer or a director, I want to hear from you! Get in touch via the Contact tab and tell me what you’re doing, how you’re coping, and what you’d like to see from Queer Creatives.
The site will be launching in February 2021 – see you then!
